In Gorgeous Filth No. 14, Stratford favours the cooler tones from her vernacular palette, invoking sun-faded mid-century surfaces, pools, household objects, alongside her signature found-typographical and distressed elements. The composite achieves a harmony in the playful and childlike tones, patiently accepting the accumulation and revelation of compounding time in an urban story to arrive at a piece that is at once intriguing and nostalgic.

About This Artist

Zandra Stratford is a West Coast abstract painter known for bold, semiotic works. Her pieces lay a foundation of elemental earth tones; clay and cement greys and soil blacks, laying strata after strata of contrasting and ambitious colour as a counterpoint to industrial textures, and this overlaid with confident horizontal structures.
